A Hard Day for Me

Last Friday was a really hard day for me! On Thursday evening one of my sons had a fever. I didn't know the reason that caused his high temperature, so at first, I just used some Traditional Chinese Medical bags and a tepid towel to sponge him, but it didn't work! And then his breathing became hurried. I worried about him so much, so finally I gave him some medicine to bring down his temperature. It really did work and lasted for about 6 hours, so he could have a good sleep! After two dozen of the medicine, he was good and the fever was gone. I was so happy. Then I just relaxed. But the good time didn't last, the other son began to cough. What should I do? Just gave him a lot of water and pear. Now he is better but still have a little cough. I learned a lesson through these 3 days, which is: One shouldn't feel relax about children, they would feedback when you least expect it! Now they are in good condition, and I can do something for myself. It is so good! I will never miss these hard days!

My First Halloween Here

This fall was my first Halloween Festival here, I could felt how much native people love it! Just a week before it, my teacher had told us a lot of things about the festival, such as: the history, the original beginning, the traditional celebrate activities and so many new words. And almost all the newspapers were talking about it too, so were the TV. So I thought it would be a big festival here and I decided to take my children to take part it and have fun with it!
On the weekend just before Halloween, I began to do some prepare. First, I carved a pumpkin into a jack-o-lantern, which was ugly but not cute, and put a lighting clock in it. With this my children could felt the happy air of the festival, and looked forward of it! Second, I asked my classmates and my friends about something I must pay attention to at that night. After then, I did some work to my children to ensure they would not scared by the demonstration before the house or the costumes the other kids wear. Last, I took my children to Wall-Mart and pick out their costume. It was really a hard work, we couldn't find out what they prefer to, we searched on the booth so many time and then found  two suit to them. One is a car, the other is Mario. They were satisfied with them, so were my husband and I. Work all were done, we just waited for the night of the festival!
Here came the evening! We went through the neighborhood look for the first house to knock. Then we found someone bigger than my child and asked them to be the guide to my children and help them. They were so kind and took my children with them for trick-treating. After a few times, my boys had known all the rules, then it was the time they did it themselves! They were so excited to go to another house hand by hand, rang the bell or knocked the door, said "trick or treat, happy Halloween, thank you" and get candies they want. So many candies! So happy they were! When my boys waked up the next morning, "We hope all day are Halloween day!". How naive they are!
Though this kind of festival is different from my national culture, but I love it! Because I can take a look at the Western culture and then participate in it personally not only by articles or videos. I think it is also have some advantage for me to adapt in new life here.
The first Halloween was so happy, I almost can't wait for the next one! I love it!

An Incident Report

The accident happened on Feb 2nd, 2010. Eliana Ramirez and I were walking in front of my office building. Suddenly, Eliana slipped on the sidewalk which was very slippery after a heavy snowfall during last night and fell forward on her stomach. She is 8 months pregnant. She gasped for air for about 20 seconds and began to feel pain. She felt she might be going into labour. Marc Brennan from the Accounting Department was walking by when he saw what happened and called 911 immediately. Paramedics came 3 minutes later and took Eliana to North York General Hospital and said she might be in labour. I called Eliana's husband and told him what had happened.

Buying a car

Almost everyone has a car here, and there is a saying:"No car, no feet." I totally agree. But we are new-comers,should we buy or just rent one? I have no idea, so we just think about it, then make a decision.
Driving a car is a good idea for my husband but not for me. When we talked about getting a car, obviously he had more interest than me. Then the first car of our family will given to him. I totally agree with that. Just like my children said, Dad is the owner and driver. We are the passengers. What we should do is sit down and tell dad where we want to go, dad has the responsibility of carrying us to the right place."
We really need a car. First, my husband likes driving the car. Second, he can drive to work. Third, he can go anywhere he likes by driving the car.Fourth, he can drive to supermarket and buy a lot of things without worry whether we can carry or not. Fifth, when we go out to play, we don't  need to take the TTC anymore. Finally, he can pick up our children after school.
Should we buy a new car or a second-hand one? It's not a question for my husband and me. Both of us have not experience in driving, so maybe buying a new one is not a good idea for us. We decided to buy a used one to have some practice. The most importance of all is that we can save a lot of money on the car price and insurance.
Based on our decision, we decided to look for the car in the Internet. Its kind, the style, the price, the quality were not my business. The job for my children and I was to tell him that we didn't like this one or that one. So he had to work hard to explore and find one we liked and to pay for it. It's a good idea for someone as lazy as I.
Finally, on the evening of July 30th, he gave us a big surprise--he just have bought one-- It was a very beautiful white, Mazda 6. My children like it so much and so do my husband and I. we can go anywhere we like!
In short, car is very important to our life. I love the life with a car.

Apple Picking Day

How excited we were! In the last day on September we finally welcomed the apple picking day which had been postponed for one week.
In the morning all my classmates and I got on the school bus to go to the farm. We have been looking forward to this field trip so much and to picking apples ourselves and tasting the fresh fruit. Unfortunately, there were almost no apples on the apple trees. Then what should we do? My children gave me the answer.  They said to look at every tree carefully to find the a few apples on it, though perhaps the apples were not delicious at all! Finally we found some apples and put them into their baskets and tasted them. "It's yummy!" my sons shouted. The children are easily satisfied. They like everything in the world, but why not? Impressed by my children, I thought the apples delicious too!
All of us enjoyed this trip and bought a lot of goods to home, including the apples we have already picked. My children thought it was a pleasure journey, so did I.

My road of go to linc school

When I first came to Toronto, people here all told me that I should improve my language first, so I decided to go to LINC school first then go to college or university later.
People who are immigrate may know that an English test in YMCA is needed before entering the school, so I just booked an appointment on a Saturday almost two months later because there were so many persons waiting for the test on Saturday and most of them are parents who are on the duty of take care of their child.
After a long wait, the day came. It was a raining day and I was all wet though I used an umbrella. How bad the weather was! But the test was OK, then came another question: My children couldn't go to school because they haven't getten OHIP card and have no family doctor, so what I could do but to wait. After two months' wait, We got our OHIP card. But the school was closed due to the summer holiday, then only one word I could describe my situation, wait.
Now the school was reopened. My children and I already have a seat in it. I am so happy to be a student again, my road to LINC school is not so simple, I'll grab the chance to improve my language and go step by step to my future.

My first trip in Canada

I came to Canada  12 March 2010, landing in Calgary. On my first day I thought everything was new and so much different from my hometown: the faces were different, the smiles were different, so was the language and the fresh air, all of these attracted me so much! But when I first got off the plane in the evening, I couldn't see any light on the road and I couldn't see any people either, what a strange country!
People here couldn't understand what I said due to my poor pronunciation, I was very upset, why didn't I study harder before? But I have no time to think over it, I had a lot of things to do and was busy taking care of my children. I haven't much time to go around here carefully because I would be going back home soon, although I like it here so much not only because there is  little air pollution but also the friendly faces I had seen.
The first trip of Canada made me love to stay here and I think I will live a good life here in the future.
